Friday Fill-Ins

1. Snow is rare where I live.
2. I’m looking forward to the books arriving that I’ve ordered with my Amazon.co.uk gift certificate.
3. ‘The Darling Buds Of May’ by H.E. Bates is the best book ever!
4. One of my favorite old tv shows is ‘Open All Hours’.
5. I’m done with weighing myself every week.
6. The most enjoyable thing around the holidays is giving people presents and watching them open them.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to (and praying for!) a quiet evening watching tv with my cat. Tomorrow my plans include shopping (just for a change!) and Sunday, I want to have a lie-in!

Shopping and stropping

My Dad is currently having a strop with me because I gave Flash fresh biscuits this morning after washing his dishes, and the ones I threw away were only put out for him last night. Can you believe it? I pay for the darn biscuits anyway! Actually he’s having a strop with everybody now because of that. Is it any wonder that I have mental health problems?
On a happier note, Mum and I are going to another out of town store this morning. It’s called Matalan. I’ve only been there about three times in the past. There’s a sports store nearby so I might have a look for some new trainers as well. I don’t plan to do much today apart from that. I did my dusting last night so that I wouldn’t have to do it today.

Thursday thoughts

I think I had the munchies yesterday. I ate a whole meal of sausages, tomato, egg, and mashed potatoes for lunch. It was the biggest meal I’ve eaten for ages. I picked at things during the rest of the day too. I haven’t felt so hungry for a long time. I used the ointment twice yesterday and my mouth is so much better it’s unbelievable. It’s amazing how quickly steroids can work. They are wonderful drugs in small doses, but with potentially disastrous side effects.
I’m meeting both my friends for coffee this morning, one before the other, with an overlap as they are friends too. I have a little bit of shopping to do so I want to be out by 9am if possible. Son 1 has just told me what he wants for his main Christmas present, so I shall be off to Play.com to order that shortly. I haven’t got a clue as to what to put in my Thursday Thirteen so I think I might give it a miss this week. I don’t plan to be back online today, and if I do it will just be to check my email. I want to read or just watch tv. I’m tired and achey already, and it’s cold out today, so I shall probably be wanting to cuddle up and keep warm.

Wednesday wanderings

I decided that I ought to go back and see my doctor again about my sore mouth (angular stomatitis), because I was told not to over use the ointment. Anyway, I am allowed to use it again for three days to get it better, and then if it starts going again I can use it for a day, but no more than one day a week. Apparently it is quite a strong steroid cream and if I use it too much it could make the skin I’m using it on very thin.
I’ve been there before. I get eczema, especially on my hands, and I tried several steroid ointments, ending up with the skin of my hands and particularly fingers so thin that if I was doing cross stitch the blunt end of the needle would go through my skin if I used any pressure. Obviously it would be much worse to have the skin on my face/mouth that thin and breaking at the slightest touch.
I did a bit of shopping after seeing the doctor. I didn’t buy anything much, just some foot cream, but I got a good haul of library books, including Julie Walters’ autobiography, which I’d been planning to order. I’m feeling tired and very achey, so I’m not planning on doing an awful lot today, just watch tv and maybe read. My next job is writing the Christmas cards, but I’m not in the mood to do that today, and after all, it is only 3rd December!

Tail end of Tuesday

Posted in aches & pains, backache, health, pain, presents, sciatica, tired

I think I’m more tired and achey than I was yesterday. At least with the big shop I keep moving, but going from shop to shop, stopping and starting means more standing, and that’s what makes the sciatica worse. I’ve got all my presents for Son 1 done up, so everything I’ve bought is wrapped now, and I probably won’t buy very much more. I’ve even wrapped the presents I’ve got for Son 2 to give the other side of his family. Well, I’m off to shower and put on one of my new pairs of pyjamas. New pyjamas are more exciting for me because I spend so much time in them! I’m really tired and achey, so I think the most energetic thing I shall do this evening is circle the tv programmes I want to watch in next week’s Radio Times. Goodness me, I sound as if I’m about ninety. Actually I feel about ninety at the moment!

Shopping and wrapping - again!

Posted on December 2nd, 2008 at 9:51am
Posted in Son 1, Son 2, aches & pains, my boys, pain, shopping, tired

The shopping went well yesterday, and I came home and got stuck in to the present wrapping. I’ve wrapped all Son 2’s presents, and need a couple more for him. Today I’m hoping to get Son 1’s presents wrapped, but first Mum and I are going into town. We’ve got some Woolworth’s vouchers that we want to use up, just in case they become worthless. Also I need to get some more tough wrapping paper. That shiny stuff is useless, especially when you’re a cack-handed present wrapper like me!
I’ve got a £5 discount skin care voucher for Boots that expires today, and there’s a 30% off event in Bon Marché, so hopefully I’ll be able to find some nice pyjamas in there. After shopping and wrapping yesterday I was very tired, and in, well not quite agony, but a lot of pain. Hopefully that won’t happen today, but the colder weather seems to get right into my muscles and joints. That makes me sound really elderly but it’s true.

Monday mutterings

I spent most of yesterday morning putting titles and descriptions on around 200 photos. I thought I’d finished and then found another 195 that I hadn’t done, so I gave up in disgust! I turned to present wrapping and managed to wrap almost everything apart from my boys’ stuff. I also put the Amazon.co.uk vouchers into Christmas cards. I’m hoping to get the rest of the present wrapping done over the next couple of days, and I won’t have too many cards to write as Dad is putting me on the family cards.
I suggested that we do the big shop today. Mum isn’t over enthusiastic but will go if I want to. Dad says he’ll do what he’s told. It was a weekend of arguments, culminating with a shrieking and bellowing match between my parents last night. I can’t cope with it so have taken valium, which to be honest doesn’t help a lot, but it does take the edge off things. I think the only person who hasn’t been involved in the arguments is me. All I want is a quiet life!
I’ve told Son 2 that I’ll get him some presents for the other side of his family. I’ve told him that I want paying though. I think I’m being very nice getting them, but I’m darned if I’m going to pay for them! Even if I only spend £3 it works out at £21 as there are seven of them. It’s only a token gift and I’ve seen some nice bits and bobs in Tesco Extra. I’ll probably end up wrapping them as well (*sigh*)! I do think I’m quite obliging really! I can’t see his Dad doing the same thing so I’ll include Son 2 on my presents to my family. Anyway, I’m off to write my shopping list. TTFN.

Sunday stuff

Posted in Christmas, camera, family, photos

What is this thing about stealing blog content?  I keep finding links and trackbacks which lead to my content on someone else’s blog, usually a faceless blog selling something, rather than a personal one.  Anyone have any ideas about how to stop it happening?
I got Mum to spray some ‘Deep Heat’ on my back last night, to see if it helped with the pain.  I hadn’t tried anything like that for years, and last time I tried a cream, which brought me out in weals.  This time it seemed to spread to places that hadn’t been sprayed.  It made me feel like I had sunburn, and really itchy, but that’s about it.  I think it must work by distraction!
I seem to be writing myself a lot of lists at the moment.  Today’s includes writing Christmas cards and wrapping presents, both of which are unlikely to get done today, but I do hope to sort the photos out, check out prices on the camera I want, and research Advent for something Mum is doing, so that should keep me occupied.
